Latest Update - Ronstan Southern States Yarrawonga March 6,7,8
Written by Pat Pedicini Friday, 22 January 2010 01:26
Despite recent concerns re algae in the Murray River we are advised by the Yarrawonga Yacht Club that all is set to go at the weekend. Please see below the latest advise from YYC.
A further Notice regarding YYC’s Labour Day Regatta
I must report that a red alert has been notified for blue-green algae in the Murray River, from Lake Hume to Barham, which takes in our lake, Lake Mulwala.
The water authority has further declared the situation in Lake Mulwala as “steady”, which is neither improving nor worsening at this time. I can say that there has been scarcely little algae observed in the lake and it is considered that the “main thrust” of this alert pertains to sections of the river, with only a small relevance to the actual lake. Nevertheless we must take heed of the warning and re-consider the Club’s position in respect of its events, especially the upcoming Labour Day Regatta.
Whilst cognizant of these factors, the Club has decided to continue with the Regatta as advertised, however we undertake to make all sailers aware of the algae situation, which will be thoroughly monitored by us, and we will amend sailing instructions etc should that be deemed necessary. So we say to our visitors- keep on coming, the Regatta’s definitely on.
For updates on the algal situation, direct from the horse’s mouth, view www.water.nsw.gov.au.
At the local level, contact our Club Captain Trevor Turnbull on 0418 597799 if you have further queries.

The next date to mark in your diary is the Ronstan Southern States Champs, this event will once again be sailed at Yarrawonga Y.C. over the Labour Day weekend (March 6/7/8). The good news is, the lake is full and there is no weed to contend with. This will be a great weekend a usual and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Launch of TAV Ranking Scheme
Written by Pat Pedicini Thursday, 24 September 2009 11:47
Last Sunday the TAV launched a new initiative to encourage more people to sail more often and to constantly strive for excellence in sailing. The following article gives all the details but in essence there are two awards:
The Participation Award - a point for every TAV event a TAV member participates in - sailing, training or social
TAV Ranking - a point for every boat a TAV skipper or crew beat at an official TAV sailing event. A "yellow jersey" will be awarded after each event to the top ranked Victorian Tasar skipper and crew.
Who knows how the idea may grow and it may become a national initiative!
