A strong fleet of 30 Tasars lined up at Yarrawonga Yacht Club over the labour day weekend to contest the Victorian State Championships with Craig McPhee coming out a convincing winner over the 5 contested races over 3 days in generally light and flukey conditions.
Vic 2011 Dinghy Titles

5 Tasars rolled up at Mordialloc over Saturday and Sunday the 10th and 11th December for some great sailing in the mixed fleet section of the Victorian Dinghy titles. On Saturday a testing shifting and gusting Northerly of 15 to 20kts combined with tricky combinations of inner and outer trapezoid courses kept everyone on their toes with 'Jac' skippered by Paul Ridgeway winning two out of the three races.
Very interesting to note that in race 2 when 'Jac' and 'Shearwater' switched crews, 'Shearwater' skippered by Jeremy Elmslie and crewed by Bronwyn cantered away to win the race with Paul seen leading the rest of the fleet around the wrong windward mark.
Day 2 saw a traditional Mordy surf, 20 kts and difficulties getting off and on the beach for some of the fleet. The Ridgeways back together after their brief parting and with course navigational skills restored (at the front of the boat) took 4 out of 4 from Dave Bretherton and Monica Tonner in Edge Off.
A BIG highlight for the Tasar fleet however was surfing in at the end of racing right past a couple of floundering Ridgeways desperately trying to right the very surprised 'Jac'. Perhaps the most notable victims of the Mordy surf in recent years.

The TAV has organised an intiative to introduce the Tasar to youth sailors called the Youth Grand Prix series. The idea is to give as many kids as possible the chance to get on a Tasar and get a feel for what a lovely boat they are to sail. To date there have been held at both Royal Geelong and Sandringham YCs. To say it has been a roaring success would be an understatement!
