TANSW Training Initiative
The TANSW is excited to announce a training initiative.
There will be two days available for training, the 26th of February at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC), and the 11th March at Woollahra Sailing Club (WSC). You are welcome to come for the two days, or just the one! Suit yourself but either way you will see enormous benefit!
The investment will be $50 per boat per day ($60 for non-members) subsidised by the TANSW. This will include a professional coach (Simon Reffold), feedback and video footage. This is broken down in the read more section below!
As there is a lot of planning involved in these sessions, you will need to register your interest to take part via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
26th February - RPAYC - cost $50 for coaching and $10 for TT entry
Meet prior to the TT race at 10am sharp. Quick meet and greet with all participants. Brief pre-race briefing covering; weather, objectives and goals.
Everyone will be on the water 1.5 hours prior to racing for a really quick supervised tune-up.
Simon will video the racing, attempting to spend equal time on all boats participating in the coaching day. From the video you will get a good look at the sail trim, steering style, kinetics and boat handling of each boat so there will be something to review for the second coaching session, and some goals to achieve.
If time permits there will be a short debrief on the water for each boat that is participating, but there will be a full debrief for all participants after racing while derigging (probably with a beer too!).
Between de-brief and the second session on 11 March
- Simon will review the video and edit.
- Make a training plan for each boat based on observations and notes taken.
- Prepare a plan for the second coaching session - this will depend on those participating.
- An email will be sent out to all participants for the second session with the overall plan and specific goals for the day.
11th March - WSC - cost $50 for coaching
Breakfast meeting for all participants (about 9.30 - 10am, this will be confirmed via email). Review of the video from the 26th February with commentary, and a run through of the day's activities.
First session – Boat speed - up and downwind speed.
Lunch – back to the beach to have a quick chat, re-charge and then out for the second session.
Second session - Boat handling, there are many drills we can do here depending on the requirements of the participants. But this will be a work out for all concerned!
End of the day. Debrief on beach after de-rig.
As there is a lot of planning involved in these sessions, you will need to register your interest to take part via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it - any questions should also be directed to Rob.
