2010-11 Season Opener
The 2010-11 season got of to a great start with a picture perfect weekend of sailing.
Saturday saw 8 boats front the start line in a 10 knot Easterly at Georges River Sailing Club for 2 races. Chris Thompson had removed his boat from under a mulburry bush and rinsed it with Ajax, but still showed that Dacron's well sailed can show a fleet around a course. A couple of familiar boats with new owners showed the class is growing stronger and personally it was good to get back in the saddle of the ex Doof. We also learnt that the Ranga boat's touchy feely relationship with Tie Me Down is still going strong.
Sunday saw a different set of 8 boats rig up at Kogarah Bay for some training under the guidance of Rob & Nic Douglass. The club boat was put to good use to show future skippers the finer points of steering and the morning session allowed crew members to pilot boats around a small course in the light breeze. It was also good to see another long lost Tasar re-appear, a little worse for wear, but likely to join Speers Point in the coming season. The afternoon session consisted of 2 short races in a shifty 12 knot Nor'Easter with skippers and crews allocated based on experience. Congratulations to Chris Johnson for winning the event overall. A debrief session over a BBQ and cold drinks gave valuable feedback to everyone.
Next event on the agenda is the October long weekend at Callala Bay. Promises to be an awesome couple of days sailing, with a social BBQ planned for the Saturday night. Look forward to seeing you all there.
